Every day can be a good day?! Apparently yes. Copy and paste the above link into your browser to access this article about how to make each and every day a good day. You'll be living like 90's Ice Cube in no time. Here are some basic things you can do to turn your day around and go from negative to positive:
- Do what you enjoy and engage in activities that you are good at, find stimulating and gratifying. Yes these activities may even involve your actual job (if you are lucky), or a hobby you enjoy. Anything that can get you into that sense of "flow" can lift your mood and reduce your stress. An example for me would be teaching my spin class. Once I'm in the groove- I have a blast with it.
-Add a little pleasure. Which basically means indulge yourself. Take a warm bath, a long walk on a nice day, light a candle, some small indulgence to make your day feel extra special. When the weather is just starting to turn from cold winter evenings to brisk spring ones, I really like taking a walk through the city.
-Practice mindfulness. If something triggers your stress levels to rise throughout the day, hit the reset button and bring yourself back to the here and now. Then continue to enjoy whatever activity you are doing that you enjoy! For me, when I'm stressing out, it often helps me to stop what I'm doing, and vent to a close friend. They usually can help me laugh about the situation and take me down a notch- and then I can regroup, reset, and not worry about the stressing situation so much.
-Cultivate joy and laughter. Do something fun and share a laugh. This helps you be able to cope with stress and bond with others. It's only a day, make sure you aren't taking it so seriously. I try to do this as often as possible-laughing is my favorite!
-Maintain balance. Sure you might thrive on being busy- but make sure you schedule flexibility in your schedule, and some downtime during your busy day. For me, it often comes in the form of a lunch or coffee break, a drive listening to relaxing music, or a walk at the end of the day.
